　　例如crossroad是交叉路或橫馬路，而crossroads卻是十字路或十字路口，它的前面可以用a，但-s不能丟掉。如：

　　The accident took place at a crossroads．

　　車禍發(fā)生在十字路口。

　　They drive across the plain by way of a crossroad leading to the highway．

　　他們沿著一條通往公路的交叉路駕車橫過平原。

　　cross-reference是前后參照、互見條目的意思，專指同一書刊中前后互相參閱的說明。例：

　　In this book cross-references are shown in capital letters．

　　在本書中，前后參照的互見條目用大寫字母表示。

　　crossing是渡口、橫道線或（鐵路與公路的）交叉點(diǎn)。如：

　　The Star Ferry Pier is a ferry crossing in central．

　　天星碼頭是在中環(huán)的一個渡口。

　　All care should stopat the zebra crossing．

　　所有車輛都要在斑馬線前停下。

　　A bus ran into a train at the level／grade crossing．

　　一輛公共汽車在平交點(diǎn)與火車相撞。
