　　2008年5月19日是第一個(gè)真正意義上的“世界肝炎日”，世界肝炎聯(lián)盟(WHA)將聯(lián)手世界衛(wèi)生組織、其他聯(lián)合國組織、紅十字會(huì)、開放性社會(huì)研究所(Open SocietyInstitute)、蓋茨基金會(huì)(Gates Foundation)等機(jī)構(gòu)，于2008年5月19日在全球正式啟動(dòng)為期5年的“世界肝炎日”運(yùn)動(dòng)。這是世界肝炎聯(lián)盟成立以來首次舉行的世界范圍內(nèi)活動(dòng)，屆時(shí)，遍布全球五大洲的200多份個(gè)組織將同步行動(dòng)，喚起世界人民對(duì)病毒性肝炎防治工作的關(guān)注和重視。在中國，世界肝炎聯(lián)盟(WHA)將攜手中國肝炎基金會(huì)開展推廣相關(guān)活動(dòng)，讓全國人民慎重意識(shí)到乙肝正嚴(yán)重威脅著人類健康，最終協(xié)助全人類共同控制肝炎疾病的感染與蔓延。

　　本次世界肝炎日的主要目的就是提高公眾對(duì)病毒性性肝炎(包括乙肝和丙肝)的認(rèn)知，了解病毒性肝炎對(duì)公眾健康的威脅。“我是第十二個(gè)嗎?(AmInumber12?)”是第一屆世界肝炎日的主題，意指全球大約12個(gè)人中就有一個(gè)是慢性病毒性肝炎患者(包括乙肝和丙肝)，這些人很可能就在你我的身邊，而并未能得到及時(shí)的診斷。
